WHAT IS
SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing children's knowledge, attitude and skills to manage emotions, develop care and concern for others, build positive relationships, set goals and make healthy decisions.

The five principles of SEL:

SELF-AWARENESS - recognizing emotions, assessing ones' strengths and challenges

SELF-MANAGEMENT - controlling emotions, managing fear, setting and achieving goals

SOCIAL-AWARENESS - showing empathy and compassion for others

RELATIONSHIP SKILLS - building healthy relationships and resolving conflict

RESPONSIBLE DECISION-MAKING - making wise choices
