Books & Beyond Reading Club volunteer Alison embarked on a journey with Book Bear to Ukraine, accompanied by 192 animals in 3 titled story books and 28kg of overweight luggage, filled with hope and excitement.

 

Surrounded by children who had lost their biological parents and good health, Alison shared the wonders of fun and knowledge in the books she brought. She counted the bananas on each page in “Willy the Dreamer”, imitated the farm animals in “What the Ladybird Heard” and touched the rough glitter on the shells in “Sharing a Shell”. Together with the children, they learned the importance of sharing and the uniqueness in each special individual.

 

Alison went to Ukraine to empty her suitcase and share her joy with the children, but in turn discovered the simplicity of happiness and the love for all people around us.
